OpenOPTI is an affordable open-source 3D microscope that utilizes Optical Projection Tomography (OPT) to create three-dimensional images of samples. This method allows for obtaining a 3D representation using visible light without the need for physical sectioning.

The model consists of the following components:

  • USB microscope
  • Mirror
  • Stepper motor
  • EasyDriver stepper motor driver
  • 10W LED
  • Variable buck-converter
  • Arduino Nano
  • Small AC/DC power supply

The total assembly cost is approximately $60.

Usage Instructions:

  • Install Arduino firmware
  • Install the Matlab CT Reconstruction Package
  • Change the COM port in the Matlab script to your Arduino's current port
  • Center and focus your sample in the camera frame
  • Click Run and wait for completion
