The Energy-Buran model is a Soviet reusable spacecraft system (MTKS), developed in response to the US Space Shuttle program.

Key facts:

First flight: November 15, 1988, in unmanned mode.
Program start: 1974.
Program closure: 1993, with decision to halt further development and conserve the project.

Key designers included Yuri Semenov and Boris Gubanov, responsible for the Buran system and the Energy rocket complex, respectively.
