Transform your 4-liter food storage container into a filament storage unit for 1 kg spools with a diameter of 200 mm and a width of up to 70 mm. Ensure you purchase the correct container. There are two versions: the correct one is pricier on eBay and features three narrow grooves on one side. Manufacturer: Guangzhou Baomei Network Technology Co., Ltd. Model: GZ12 (and likely others in the GZ01 to GZ100 range). The alternative version with a single large groove is unsuitable as it restricts spool movement. I initially used this version but switched after noticing the issue. I’ve provided a simple bottom insert to create additional space. If you like this design, please consider leaving a ♥️heart. Thank you!

Materials:

  • [1x] Food storage box (4 l)
  • [6x] Screw M3 x 30 mm
  • [4x] Ball bearing 608 (e.g., 608 2RS; 8x22x7mm)
  • [1x] Pneumatic coupler PC4-M4

Assembly:

Print the custom lid or the insert for the original lid. The custom lid is large and should be printed at a 45° angle on the Z-axis. If it doesn't fit your print bed, consider using the insert. Print the lid and 6 latches preferably from PETG for flexibility. Attach the original lid seal into the groove of the new lid and secure the latches. Proceed to the wheels section.

Wheels: Print 2 wheels and insert the bearings. Insert the axle into one wheel and carefully bend the sides to fit the other end. This works well with PETG parts.

Pneumatic Coupler: Drill a hole for the coupler and screw it in carefully to avoid cracking the container.
