Model Overview: The Sherman BARV (Beach Armoured Recovery Vehicle) is a modified M4A2 tank, which features waterproofing and a tall armored superstructure in place of the turret.
This vehicle was extensively deployed during the Normandy invasion, with around 60 units operating on the beaches to:
- Remove broken-down or swamped vehicles hindering beach access.
- Refloat small landing crafts stuck on the shore.
The BARV could operate in waters up to 2.7 meters deep. Uniquely, the crew included a diver tasked with attaching towing chains to stranded vehicles.
