This is a replacement for a FIAT plastic shower drain cover that is over 20 years old. It is nominally a 4.5-inch square cap, but the shape is between square and circle. I designed it to be fairly faithful to the original while strengthening the lower supports.
This replacement matches the shape of the original and fits perfectly into the shower tray.
I added a second version with a more modern drainage design, which cannot be injection molded in one piece like the original cap. For those interested in shape, it is represented here as a parametric curve in polar coordinates:
- D1 is the size of the square (116.5 mm)
- D2 is the diameter of the diagonal (124.5 mm)
Note that angle t is measured in radians, not degrees: r(t) = 0.5 * (D1 + (D2-D1) * sin(2*t)**2).
I am new to printing and designing, so comments are welcome. I printed this in PETG, but I think ABS would be a better choice.
