This simple 3D printed clamp is designed to solve the issue of broken remote key housings for Volkswagen cars. Typically, the latching cantilever beam that holds the two halves of the case in place breaks if the remote control is dropped. Since replacing these remotes can be expensive, the most practical solution is to attempt repairs.
Gluing the case halves together makes battery replacement difficult, so a good solution is to design an unobtrusive clamp that holds the two halves together. This clamp is made for simple 3D printing and acts as a spring arm that keeps the two halves of the body united.
The only modification required for the car remote is to drill a small notch in the metal half of the housing. Please see related pictures and videos for reference.
Although this is an unusual 3D file that will mainly benefit Volkswagen owners, it illustrates how 3D printing can save money and extend the lifespan of a defective product.
