Since World War II, the US military has relied on the 'Jeep' to traverse mud and reach the front line. The latest incarnation is the trusty 'Mutt,' first used in Vietnam and retired in the early 1990s.
The U.S. Air Force utilized it for transporting important forward air controllers who helped call in precise air strikes on enemy positions.
