Pegasus is a mythical winged stallion, recognized in Greek mythology, typically depicted as pure white. He is the offspring of the Olympian god Poseidon, born from the decapitated Gorgon Medusa.
Pegasus created the Hippocrene fountain and was captured by the Greek hero Bellerophon, aided by Athena and Poseidon. He assisted Bellerophon in defeating the monstrous Chimera, but later Bellerophon fell from his back while trying to reach Mount Olympus. Zeus transformed Pegasus into the constellation. The symbolism of Pegasus has varied over time, representing wisdom and fame and later becoming associated with poetry.
