This allows you to house the key fob receiver when replacing the rear view mirror.
Tri-lobe mirror adapters, usually marketed for Dodge/Ram/Chrysler, also fit our Z3's.
I mounted a smaller, adjustable rear view mirror using one of these adapters. This paired with a Pilot Automotive MI-009 8" mirror made a great improvement to visibility.
