Loading 3D model...
There are 2 included files: one is the capsule itself, and the other contains a thin removable support structure in the center for a cleaner print.
This capsule is used in various Chrysler vehicle steering columns from 1967 to 1972. It may work on other models, but this is unconfirmed. It has been confirmed that it fits a 1968 Plymouth Satellite.
It is a safety component designed to hold the steering column in place while shattering upon impact, allowing the column to move out of the way and absorb some crash impact. In the parts breakdown image, three capsules are shown installed on the component labeled 'Clamp' in the top left box.
As these vehicles age, the plastic capsules become brittle and begin to break, which is not ideal for a safety item on older cars.
These printed parts should work well, printed in plastic or resin, since their purpose is to break under heavy impact. With many original parts unavailable for purchase, I have made this design publicly available for those in need of a replacement.
