A model loggerhead turtle with moveable flippers. All four flippers are attached via ball joints. The front and back halves of the model snap together with the included H-clip. To print, use the file Loggerhead_plated.STL. Switch off automatic supports in your slicer software, as there are only two supports included in the STL. Remember to remove them after printing using pliers.

If you want to print it yourself, download Loggerhead_unplated.zip. The model is designed to print with two supports for the rear flipper ball joints. After printing the back half, remove the supports with pointy-nosed pliers. You may see a crown pattern where the support and the ball meet. If you can't get the whole support out, it's okay—the back flippers will still move, though not as freely. The joints have a 0.5mm clearance when printed at 100% scale, suitable for most printers.

If the flippers feel too loose after printing, try heating the model and pressing the surrounding plastic to tighten the socket. Depending on your printer and slicer calibration, the first layer may fuse the ball and socket together in the front half. If this occurs, carefully cut through to the gap with a hobby knife after printing. I have uploaded a version designed to minimize first layer fusing (see Loggerhead_NoFuseJoints_plated.STL). The two halves join together best when the surface between them is perfectly flat, so it’s recommended to print without a raft if possible.
