This is an improved version of the duct designed to prevent cooling issues in print models (PLA and ABS). The main goal of this duct is to provide an optimal solution for achieving sharp details and long bridges with minimal drawbacks.

Compatibility:
  • MakerBot Replicator 1
  • FF3DP FlashForge Creator
  • CTC Creator Dual
  • WanHao Duplicator 4 and Duplicator 4X
Improvements over v1:
  • Increased air flow rates, especially in side channels
  • Reduced air loss between fan and duct
  • Only screws and nuts are required, available at any hardware store
  • Duct will be mounted horizontally and solidly - enough space for small build plate clips
  • Flatter center air outlets to prevent contact with heat blocks
  • Angled fan mounting allows usage in Duplicator 4X with regularly installed closed front door.
Downsides compared to v1:
  • Complex bridging requires better optimized filament profiles
  • Due to thin walls for low duct weight, a temporary cooling solution may be needed for successful printing.
Mounting:

All mentioned printers share similar designs in the ABS extruder carriage.
Start by placing an M3 nut in each outer arm of the duct. Insert them from the sides. Next, snap your fan into the back of the duct. It should extend about 5mm on either side into the frame. Attach the two other nuts into the matching slots at the front of the duct and screw in M3x16mm screws through the fan into the nuts. Make sure the small lobes on both sides grip the carriage from the bottom near the linear bearings and attach the clips onto the top of the side arms.
