The 2010 Formula One World Championship was the 61st World Drivers' Championship, won by Sebastian Vettel (Red Bull Racing) among drivers and Red Bull Racing among constructors. Two major modifications were introduced:

  • Refueling during races is prohibited, so drivers must carry enough fuel for the entire race distance.
  • The points system was changed: only the top ten drivers score points, with the winner receiving 25 points.

Mercedes returned to Formula One fifty-five years after its last participation, bringing seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher out of retirement to team up with young Nico Rosberg. Throughout the season, the championship standings saw constant competition between Fernando Alonso, Jenson Button, Lewis Hamilton, and Mark Webber.

Heading into the final race in Abu Dhabi, four drivers were in contention for the title. Vettel, starting from pole position, won after fifty-five laps. Alonso, employing a strategy used by Webber, finished seventh. If Hamilton crossed the finish line in second position, he would not take points away from Vettel, who would then become the youngest world champion in history.

Vettel ended the season with 10 pole positions, 5 wins, 10 podiums, and led 382 laps. Alonso finished in second place with four points. Red Bull Racing, racing the Red Bull RB6-Renault, won its first constructors' title.
