I present my second attempt at a miniature painting holder. My last version didn't do a few things I realised I wanted and forced a style of grip I started to dislike. The over-hoop kept getting in the way of the miniature for certain angles and needed to be larger, plus I wanted to be holding the miniature in my palm, rather than way above my hand. I went back to the drawing board and started again from scratch and am now happier with the result. Hopefully you may also find it of use also. I still wanted to avoid adhesives or mounting putties, but this might have been a mistake, as the clamping parts only work within a narrow range of base sizes, so I've also made a mounting face that's more suitable for sticking models to it. The new design is made up of four distinct parts: The Body, the Nut, the Core and the Top pieces. The Body is the main part that is gripped by the hand. There is a small hole in the lower part of the base ring that needs to be tapped for an M6 thread, to allow the installation of the Spring Ball Plunger Screw. This screw should be installed so only the ball end is protruding into the inner space of the Body. The Nut is the outer part of the "Miniature Puck"; the assembled part that carries the miniature itself. It is this part that fits into the cavity in the Body and the cut-outs around it are what interfaces with the Plunger Screw, to give an indexed feel when rotating the Puck. Being able to quickly and easily rotate the miniature, while preventing it from moving around unwantedly is a major feature of this new design. The Core is screwed into the Nut part to help clamp the miniature in place. Three or six holes in the top need to be tapped for a UNC 6-32 thread. The Tops are the parts that directly clamp the base of the miniature. Three are needed for each puck assembly. They need to be screwed to the Core part using 3 or 6 UNC 6-32 CSK screws. Each Top part is labelled with a size, this is the maximum size of base each can take, but can clamp down on a base around a millimetre and a half smaller than this size. For a 25mm base; the 26mm Top parts are recommended to best clamp it. This is also true with the other popular sizes where 33mm Tops should be used with 32mm bases and 41mm Tops for 40mm bases. There are two different versions of the holder: A 40mm version and a smaller 32mm version. These are the maximum base sizes the holders can take. The 40mm version works within a range of 32 to 40mm, while the 32mm version is suitable for 25 to 32mm. The pucks are designed to stay on each miniature during most of the painting process. Only one Handle Body of each size should be needed, but multiple pucks will likely be required for those who batch paint their minis. Items needed other than printed parts are: 1x M6x8mm Spring Ball Plunger Grub/Set Screw, 3/6x UNC 6-32x1/4" (6mm) CSK Hard Drive Screws, M6 tap, 6-32 UNC tap. All these parts can be found cheaply on AliExpress or similar sites. Any feedback or improvement suggestions welcome. Настройки печати и инструкции
