Problem: Owners of BMWs with “Comfort” type seats often encounter a breakdown of the mechanism for adjusting the length of the cushion (popliteal bolster). A small plastic gear inside the drive breaks. The manufacturer suggests replacing the entire expensive mechanism assembly. Buying a used drive does not solve the problem, since the old plastic there is also on the verge of wear.
Solution: This digital 3D model allows us to produce a reinforced gear to restore the telescopic mechanism of the seat. The model is adapted for easy assembly and durable service.
Design and installation features:
Universal fit: The inner hole of the gear is made round for the most accurate alignment and ease of installation on the shaft.
Fixation method: To ensure reliable adhesion between the metal axle and the printed gear, it is necessary to use a high-quality two-component adhesive (epoxy compound). This ensures that the part will not rotate under load.
Compatibility: BMW 5 series (E60, E61, F07 GT, F10, F18), 7 series (E65, E66, F01, F02), X5 (E70), X6 (E71).
Technical recommendations for 3D printing:
The seat adjustment mechanism operates under load from the weight of the driver's or passenger's legs:
Material: Nylon, PA6-CF (polyamide with carbon) or PETG are recommended. Nylon is the best choice due to its durability. PLA cannot be used.
Filling: 100% (Solid) to prevent tooth crushing.
Layer height: 0.1 – 0.12 mm for perfect engagement with the worm.
Instructions: After printing, clean the axle from any remnants of the old gear, apply two-component glue to the inner surface of the new part and firmly seat it on the shaft until completely dry.
Benefits:
Savings: The cost of repairs is 20–30 times lower than purchasing a new unit.
Reliability: You yourself control the strength of the material and the quality of gluing.
Instant access: The file is ready for use immediately after payment.
