Attention: This model is experimental and for proof of concept only. The 3D files have not been tested for flight and may change.
Summary: GyroKite was once a popular and hard-to-find toy, often at high prices on eBay. Original models were made from ABS plastic with steel landing gear and flew in wind speeds of at least 10 mph.
Printing:
- Nozzle: > 0.4
- Material: ABS, PETG, ASA, LoWeightPLA (best), PLA, PLA+
- Supports: Trees (yes) - required for landing gear and rotor blade mount
- Infill: 3% for everything including blades, (20% for rotor hub, 100% for landing gear)
- Layer Height: 0.2 mm
Extra Requirements:
- 3D pen (not recommended for stabilizers and blades)
- CA glue, super glue, or epoxy
- Flathead nail approximately 1.5 inches in length or coat hanger wire
- (Optional) Coat hanger wire for landing gear mount
- Minimum 200 feet of kite twine and a decent holder
- A printer capable of high detail and supports
- Steady wind speed greater than 9 mph (critical!)
